Alexandra Palmer was born in Cape Town, South Africa in 1976.
She graduated from college with a graphic design and advertising degree, and worked for various design companies before starting her own Cape Town based design company in 2004. In 2014, she moved to the US with her husband and children.
In 2018, Alexandra began to expand her artistic and creative journey. Inspired by the sudden loss of a close family member, and reflections of her childhood memories, and stories, she wanted to find a way to capture and share the wonder of her South African home with others.
Alexandra’s artistic style is minimalistic, contemporary and strongly influenced by Africa’s beauty – it’s colours, patterns, textures and people and (eleven official languages). She is a mixed media artist, working in stoneware & earthenware for her 3D pieces & acrylic and ink for her paintings.
Since 2020, she has been splitting her time between the USA and Cape Town, South Africa.
ARTIST STATEMENT
I’ve always had a passion for art and creative expression. For many years, my outlet for this was graphic design. With our move to the US, an awakening began to stir inside me, especially for my South African roots. I needed to find a new pathway of expression and the more traditional art forms of sculpting and painting have been the result.
My hope is that one will be able to experience a little bit of South Africa, and new adventures in my life, in each piece I create.
